Random Doodles

Image
Some random doodles. I bow to the Apple Pencil, it has enabled me to sketch while travelling and not have to bring a load of paper, pencils, pens etc.

The Cottage

Image
Bacons , the name of a cottage in the new forest, also known among my family as The Cottage . It was on this lawn aged 12 I smashed a red swing ball racket on my sister’s head in rage, and also where at the precipice of each summer we would all hunt for the hole where the clothes line pictured slots into. Recently my dad got a weed burner, and singed the grass around it, so nowadays it’s easy to find the hole.

I’m So Bloody Owl Sometimes

Image
Bit weird.  So I went to the Centro Cultural San Pablo in Oaxaca city. There was a really wonderful exhibition based around birds. With various different artists interpreting the theme. There was one model of a girl with an owl for a head. I started drawing it from a picture I took, and this just came out. For some reason it reminded me of the ‘God I’m so bloody blonde sometimes’ meme (which I had presumed was actually some Lichtenstein era pop art type thing, but it’s not apparently). I couldn’t remember there was ‘God’ at the beginning of the ‘original’, but hey.

I Love (Cypriot) Food

Image
This is a roadside sandwich van or ‘καντίνες’. One of several, this one was particularly superb. I sat with my friend on a hot June day in the leafy shaded seating, with a fresh homemade lemonade and a massive ‘all the works’ sandwich, with various meats, cheese, salad and mayonnaise. It was situated in Akamas natural park, among the more stunning corners of an already beautiful land. The actual van had so much character, with many more faded stickers and stuff on it.

Salcombe, England.

Image
This was done from Pickle , a Contessa 39ft sailing yacht. Moored up just down the river from the utterly charming, totally posh, Salcombe. Situated on the south west coast of England in Devon. It had been sunny later in the day, but here in the morning, the clouds were a moody grey blue. Yet such a peaceful place to sit and wash the gentle waves lapping against the hull. Below is a boat winch, specifically used for the genoa sheet.

Mirador de Tortugas

Image
This sketch was done of the stunning sunset at Mirador de Tortugas, in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. It is one of the most beautiful spots for watching sunsets I have ever visited. The picture is done from about twenty minutes after the sun had dipped silently over the life giving ocean horizon. It’s a lovely spot where there are various different places to sit, on sand, on rock, and usually there are around 15-30 others you are sharing the beautiful moment with. It was done in sketchpad on an iPad mini 6.
